In simple terms Double Glazed Units or IGU's are units made up of 2 pieces of glass which are sealed together with a spacer bar. This leaves a layer of air trapped in between the two pieces of glass. Air is a very poor conductor of heat so this layer is a protection between the cold air outside and the warm air inside. Heat loss is a common factor in most New Zealand homes, along with condensation and sound. Double Glazing is an effective way to combat all of these problems. IGU's work in various ways, each dependant on the make up of the unit. There are numerous glass combinations and spacer widths which offer various solutions. By instaling IGU's you are helping to reduce your heating (or cooling) bills in your home. |
